Memorial plates of benches stolen at Old Church Oosterbeek

Three memorial plates that were attached to the wooden benches behind the Old Church in Oosterbeek have disappeared. A fourth is slightly bent but is still there.

The benches are right behind the church, the fourth next to the church, visible from the front.

Arnhem veterans

The report that the plates would have disappeared comes from the president of the Arnhem Veterans Club. At the scene it turned out that three plates have indeed disappeared and a fourth one was probably tried to be taken aswell.

However, this one is fixed with six pop rivets, and is more difficult to release than the other three that were fastened with four screws.

Donations

The benches have been donated to Oosterbeek. By veterans and by family of military who have fought here. That applies at least to the bench where a memorial plate for Leslie Jack Plummer was on (see photo above).

What exactly was written on the plates on the other two banks, so far is not known, there are no pictures of it.

Someone who does have them, may send them to [email protected] so that we can also put them. By who these benches are donated is not known.

Remorse

The police were not yet aware of the theft. As a result of our findings, the commune has been called in to see who these banks actually are.

If the person who has collected these pictures is remorseful, it can be repaired and they can be sent to Postbus (PO Box) 10, 6860AA in Oosterbeek.
