People from all over the area came to Wageningen on the 5th of May to celebrate the Liberation in the Netherlands in 1945. Not in the least to see the Liberation Parade.
Like always with the WWII veterans in front, followed by younger ones. We had the privilege to talk with a few of them about how they experienced this day.
They couldn't stop talking about the warmth they received in Wageningen. “It was marvelous!” Frank Ashleigh said, Glider pilot during Market Garden: “I really cannot express how great full I am for this day!”
They were touched by the flowers they were given, the cheers they received end the many children who wanted to shake their hands. Ron Johnson, also a Glider pilot mentioned it several times: “The Dutch children are so wonderful and this is so important to us.”
