The Netherlands, Renkum – From Saturday September 2 to Saturday September 30, 2023, information panels can be viewed again in the Renkum mill.
This year the information panels are about Private Walter Henry Yates, 44 years old and still a parachutist. That’s pretty special. Private Walter Henry Yates is assigned to HQ Company of the 3rd Battalion.
Drop zone X
The 3rd battalion jumped on Sunday afternoon September 17, 1944 above drop zone X between Renkum and Wolfheze. The life of Private Walter Henry Yates is highlighted on the basis of three information panels. The information panels start at his birth and end at his final resting place at the Airborne cemetery in Oosterbeek.
The information panels were created after a lot of research in England and the Netherlands. Help came from a number of sources. By combining this data it has become possible to follow the life of Private Walter Henry Yates. The search started last year with just a name. By digging in all kinds of archives, many facts have emerged. And have they been able to make a story of this relatively unknown soldier.
The information panels can be seen during the opening hours of Dierenspeciaalzaak De Molen, Monday to Friday 09:00 – 18:00, Saturday 09:00 – 17:00.
