Lovely weather to walk the 71th Airborne March

Besides a few drops from a cloud that was clearly lost today, it was lovely weather to hike. The weather made many people come to Oosterbeek for the Airborne March. To hike ánd to watch.

It was the 71th time to honor the more than 1700 soldiers who died during The Battle of Arnhem and who are buried at the Airborne Cemetery in Oosterbeek by hiking different distances.

Enthusiasm

Last year 36.391 hikers joined the march, a record. How many people participated this year is not know yet. At the start you could still buy a ticket and at the pre-sale there were 25.000 tickets bought. We are very curious if the record is gonna be broken again this year

For that, the lack of enthusiasm would not be a problem. A lot of groups joined again this year, large ones like military departments from different countries or organisations like the scouting and the police, and a lot of smaller groups. Groups of friends, whole family's, young and old, in uniform or wearing a funny shirt, from all over the place and a lot from the neighborhood.

Peter van der Meijde always finds a good spot for himself and his camera. When he stands in the middle of the street, people move away for him. Except music corps, then Peter gets out of the way.
