Again there will be British Arnhem
veterans coming to Oosterbeek to attend the 71th edition of the
Airborne March, they will arrive in traditional London cabs.
"Last year we were very honored with the visit of five veterans to our anniversary edition. It really was the cherry on the pie, with cream!" says mars leader Wilma Luckel. "It was a beautiful present for us."
More veterans
The bigger the surprise when it seems that nine, but maybe ten veterans will attend the Airborne March this year. After the March in 2016, the five veterans came back with such incredibly enthusiastic stories. It made the London Taxi Charity For Military Veteran start organizing the trip for them who wanted to come.
Together with the Market Garden Foundation and the PSV ‘Renkum’ (Police Sports Association) they made a program to make sure the veterans are having a couple of unforgettable days.
Wilma Luckel: "The program will be sober, seen the high age of our guests. We want them to fully enjoy the 2th of September but having a good rest is important too."
The veterans will be attending at the official start of the March on Saturday morning and will be making (with reservation) a ride through Oosterbeek as the hikers finish. Everybody is enormously pleased with their coming over.
71th edition
The Airborne March has it's 71th edition this year. Saturday 2 September the community of Renkum, especially Oosterbeek, will be in ambiance completely for this memorial walk. The first hikers, who will walk 40 kilometers start at 07:30. People who will walk the distances 10, 15 and 25 kilometers will start at 09:30.
To remember all who died during The Battle of Arnhem and fought for our freedom there is a minute of silence at 11:00. After that, the march-leader opens the Airborne March officially.
In the afternoon when the hikers come 'home' they will be welcomed by approximately 25 different music corps from all over
