Great speech from deputy mayor at memorial in Heelsum

The memorial at the monument in Heelsum, The Netherlands is one of the first to occur during the Airborne remembrance days. It is a really special monument.

It’s not only the first monument in this area (1946), it is also build by the people of Heelsum, with their own hands with pieces they found, at the drop- and landing-zones or elsewhere in the region.

Speech

Deputy mayor Jasper Verstand held a great speech in English and Dutch about how it must have been in September 1944 for the people of our town seeing the allies coming down from the sky and tells about this special monument in Heelsum.

Sorry for the images, on our request Veluwezoom In Beeld made this footage for us from the speech in English, taken from the footage used in the report about this memorial and the one earlier that day in Oosterbeek in dutch. You can watch that report here.
