Red beech next to Airborne Museum was cut down Wednesday

The municipality of Renkum ordered, for security reasons, the hood of the majestic red beech in the park next to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek.

This Wednesday, 24 January they started early in the morning and it was filmed by Veluwezoom In Beeld. The movie is in Dutch but you’ll find the explanation below.

Reason

Indirect reason for the hood is the horse-chestnut which fell in november 2017 and was standing next to this red beech. Just like the horse chestnut, the red beech is affected by various fungi such as the honey fungus.

The tree that already stood under extra supervision, has recently been examined by an external consultancy in the field of tree care.

Despite the tree is still stable enough and there is no acute risk, the municipality got the advice to hood the tree.

No risk

The place of the tree, right next to the Airborne Museum, plays an important role too. The municipality want, given the poor state of the tree, to take no unnecessary risks.

The hood of the red beech and the fallen chestnut will be compensated by the planting of a ten metre-high silver maple.

These silver maple will be more or less in the same place. The replanting is soon and scheduled before april 1th, 2018.
